The Valencia Club de Fútbol or more simply known as Valencia C.F. is one of the successful La Liga clubs. This Spanish professional football club based in Valencia, Spain has indeed won six La Liga titles. Thus, it is also one of the most popular clubs in the top professional association football league.  

But the club doesn’t only now possess six La Liga titles. The club also possesses seven Copa del Rey trophies, two Fairs Cups, one UEFA Cup, one UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, two UEFA Super Cups and two Spanish Super Cups.

Valencia C.F. also made it to two UEFA Champions League finals but was only beaten by another La Liga club Real Madrid and then Bundesliga club Bayern Munich. The club has been also a member of the G-14 group of leading European football clubs.

Valencia C.F. has been also active in other league events while into La Liga. It has been trying to be the best professional football club.

But Valencia C.F. has been mainly into La Liga. And in La Liga this term, the club snatched third place with the help of Valencia manager Unai Emery who signed a new contract with the club after securing such place in the league.

Expectations and hopes were raised prior to that when the Gunners were buoyant after restoring their title hopes and could look forward to a Champions League quarterfinal with the trophy holders. But Europe is now again a distant dream after Barcelona left them with nothing except an improbable Premier League title to play for. But if there is one thing to be said about the Gunners this season, it is that this is a team that is full of character and determination. And showing the same character in beating Spurs for the North London bragging rights and a sustained shot at the title will prove to the critics that they truly cannot be written off under any circumstances. The injury crisis that ended their Champions League dreams prematurely will remain a factor in the league but it is something they have to deal with no matter what.

The form book usually gets thrown out the window for any derby in football and this will be no different. Other than the blip in the FA Cup, where they lost to relegated Portsmouth, Spurs have generally played well recently. Arsenal may not have been in exemplary form that their results have suggested yet that is not something that will matter in terms of the end result. If they can beat Spurs again with a last minute winner from one of their players, Arsenal will accept the result with both hands. If nothing, champions from every era have shown that success against adversity is the mark of one. Gunners manager would not refuse doing so using his philosophy but at this crucial stage, a win would be the only thing that matters. To end the season without a place in the Champions League after showing the greatest of promise could be devastating for Spurs’ future as a club that has evergrowing ambition.

Fears that Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger might take a cautious approach to their teams’ encounter in the Champions League have been lessened by the managers’ statements. The Catalan club have always stuck to their same approach since they keep winning even if it might not be defensively the best. Manager Pep Guadiola has had the benefit of the Barcelona system of play that means that the players fit into it, much like how the Dutch had their total football. Even though Iniesta will be their biggest casualty for the first game at the Emirates Stadium, Guardiola has many ready-made replacements. Once again there are three English Clubs in the semi finals of the Champions League and all three have arrived playing some of the best football of their respective seasons. Under normal circumstances, bookmakers would make an English Club winning the Trophy an ‘odds on’ bet, but such is the talent of the Barcelona team, that they are finding it difficult to take them on, therefore, it is the Spaniards who are currently favourites to win the most prestigious trophy in European football.
Barcelona under coach, Josep Guardiola, have been breaking record after record this season. They have become a goal machine, scoring five times or more in nine matches and have broken the La Liga scoring record in the process with stillseveral games remaining in the season. If Guardiola is the inspiration off the pitch, then it is surely the brilliant Argentinian, Lionel Messi, who is the inspiration on it.
Cristiano Ronaldo of Manchester United might well be officially the best player in the world, but Messi is for many the unofficial version and will undoubtedly claim the crown from Ronaldo later in the year. Messi controls the tempo of the team and it appears that everything he touches turns to gold, whether it be shooting, passing, dribbling or just space making. There has not been one team this season who has found the answer to controlling him and if one is not found soon, then Barcelona may as well be given the trophy now and none of the remaining English sides will fancy facing him or his team mates, particularly Chelsea who face barca in the Semi Finals.
Chelsea will be the first of the English teams to take on them in the forthcoming semi final. They play the first leg at Nou Camp and Barcelona have already been installed as odds on favourites to win the leg. Chelsea however, under coach Gus Hiddink are a rejuvenated outfit, with a defence that on its day is second to none. They have players of the calibre of Michael Essien, who they will place on Messi in the same way as he was placed to great affect against Steven Gerard of Liverpool in the quarter final first leg at Anfield where they won convincingly 3-1.
If Essien can negate the threat of Messi then Chelsea will be in with a great chance to shock the footballing world, particularly as their key striker, Didier Drogba and key midfielder, Frank Lampard are back to their scoring best.
In the other tie, Manchester United will take on old rivals Arsenal in a two leg all English tie that quite frankly could go either way. United, barring a little glitch last month have been the most consistent and efficient team in the Premier League this season, while Arsenal, who have been injury hit have now got back most of their key players and are on a long run of 19 unbeaten games.
Whatever the outcomes of both matches, it is fair to say that the best four teams in Europe have all justified their presence and all are extremely capable. However, it looks like Barcelona will justify the faith of the Bookmakers and win the trophy for the third time in their history. However, with five fascinating games to go, including the final in Rome on 27th May their are sure to be plenty or twists and turns and excitement for the fans.
