How to be a soccer star
How to be a soccer star
To be a soccer star you need to take responsibility for your own future. Of course you need great coaching to show you the skills and techniques you need to master, but in the end its you who have to master the skills, techniques and tactics to become that player. For this it helps to have the right frame of mind. By this I mean a willingness to be highly coachable. Your coach will really like this and want to help you as much as he or she can. I would also highly recommend learning how to critique your own skills and game performance. Make a mental note of the mistakes you made in your last game and work on them during the week. It really helps if you have a partner to practice with. Seek perfection. 100% perfection is of course not always possible but the difference between good players and great players is consistency. The best players preform consistently well week in and week out. The only way to preform skills well under pressure and consistently is to own the skills. This means you have mastered the skills so thoroughly that you can preform them spontaneously in the game. To own your skills you have to practice them as much as possible on your own as well as in team practices and in games. If you ask any great player in any sport they will tell you they have spent countless hours on individual technique training. Remember that perfect repetition is the mother of perfection.
Watch the best teams and players in the world play such as Lionell Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and try to immitate certain aspects of their game. In the end you can only be yourself, but you can gain emormously by picking up subtle aspects of great players games, their superior technique, their first touch on the ball, their great vision and how they play on their toes. Remember if you want to be the best learn from the best.
It is a good idea to have a picture in your mind of how you want to play. Envision yourself preforming skills flawlessly, then don’t quit until you get there. Its not as far away as you might think.

World Cup Qualifiers: Uefa Previews for the Next Round
Several European teams are getting prepared for the next qualifying round which is going to be held this next weekend. Portugal and Sweden are going to play this Saturday October 11th and while Portugal recovers their all star player Cristiano Ronaldo, Sweden on the other hand, has lost almost half of their top players because of injuries.
The match is going to be held at the Rasunda Stadium, in Sweden, where the local team has only lost one game in 10 years.
Portugal, which is part of the UEFA Group 1, currently is at the 4th place of the group with three points after beating Malta 4-0. However, after that they were beaten at home by Denmark 3-2. The 3 teams in the group placed above Portugal are Denmark, Albania and Sweden, all of them with four points after two games.
“From here on in it’s going to be difficult and we can’t lose any more games like we did against Denmark,” said Ronaldo “I can assure you we’ll be looking for three points in Sweden,” he added. “I want us to play our usual game and make the Swedes defend and cause them headaches…”.
Ronaldo was a doubt since he underwent an ankle surgery after the Euro 2008. In Portugal lineup, there are some important players missing too. Deco, who plays with Chelsea, has a torn muscle and cannot play. Midfielder Maniche, winger Simao Sabrosa and central defender Ricardo Carvalho are also sidelined with injuries.
However, for Sweden the picture is even worse, Strikers Henrik Larsson and Markus Rosenberg, defender Olof Mellberg, and midfielders Christian Wilhelmsson, Tobias Linderoth and Anders Svensson are out of the team due to injuries as well.
On the other hand, for UEFA Group 5 in the qualifying round, there are a lot of concerns about injuries too for the games of this weekend. For the Spanish coach, Vicente del Bosque, the mayor concerns are Sergio Ramos and Andres Iniesta who had both leg injuries. Nevertheless, there are also some good news for the team, some of the players that were injured are now back, such as Carles Puyol, Carlos Marchena and Raul Albiol, and some others are expected to be back later.
Del Bosque is considering on making some other changes in the midfield since two of the players are sidelined. But after all, they are very confident with the work that the team has been doing since they consider that they cannot be playing better than right now and that they are targeting the most important title. Spain is facing Estonia this coming Saturday and they are planning to do their best at this game.
Xavi Hernandez also expressed that he is pleased with the team, “Without a doubt, we all feel more appreciated, more important across the world. We just needed to win something,” Xavi said. “Myself, personally, I feel better prepared, stronger.” Some other teams are getting prepared as well, since most of the second round qualification matches are going to be held during the weekend. Certainly this will be a very exciting weekend and we will be anxious to see the results.
The New Wembley Stadium: Home To English Football
For any soccer fan, a visit to the new Wembley Stadium is a must. Not only is it one of the world’s most outstanding modern stadiums, but is host to the best of English football and features a veritable ‘footie-fest’ of the nation’s leading cup finals and Football League play-offs every season. The Football Association – the sport’s governing body – is planning a £12million move of its administrative headquarters from Soho Square to the new Stadium during July 2009. As Wembley is also the home venue for all of England’s international fixtures – including the qualifying games for the 2010 World Cup Finals – the move will firmly establish the stadium as the ‘home of English football’. As the English football season progresses towards its climax in May, Wembley hosts a number of prestigious finals including the traditional finale to the football season – the FA Cup Final. But, before that the cup final season begins in either late February or early March with the staging of the Carling Cup Final. This show piece cup competition of the Football League will celebrate its 50th anniversary at Wembley in 2010. Next up is the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final played at Wembley in early April. This competition is exclusively for clubs that compete in League One and League Two of the Football League. The 2009 final was an absolute thriller with Luton beating Scunthorpe 3-2 after extra time in front of a substantial lower league football crowd of 53,378. In May the games come thick and fast at the Stadium, starting with the FA Trophy Final and FA Vase Final, played on successive days on the second weekend of the month. Next, and still in May, the Football League hosts the Play-off finals when the last promotion spots for The Championship, League One and League Two are decided. Indeed, The Football League Championship play-off final – normally played on late May Bank Holiday Monday – is billed as football’s most lucrative ‘one-off’ game. The winners will be promoted to the Barclays Premier League and with that comes access to lucrative TV money. Finally, the last weekend in May sees the traditional season finale; the FA Cup final. This is one of the few ‘protected’ games to be televised live on terrestrial channels and is the daddy of all football competition finals. As you can see, May is also the month when the owners of London hotels – particularly those situated around Wembley – rub their hands in glee at the glut of ‘no vacancies’ signs, as they accommodate the thousands of football fans travelling to the capital to watch their teams in action. But, fans of football that can’t get a ticket to a game at Wembley needn’t despair. They can still access the stadium and sample its marvellous features at first-hand by buying a Stadium tour ticket.
History of American Football : Past and Present
American football emerged from the European game of Rugby in 1879. Walter Camp, a player and coach of Yale University, is recognized as “The Father Of American Football” as the early rules of the game was instituted by him. However, previous to that, the students of Princeton were already playing a game called “Ballown”. It was about fisting the ball and then using their feet to advance the ball past their opponents. There were no hard and fast rules that applied and could be stated as the easiest form of football at it’s early times. However, the physical aspect of the game was immense and often it turned violent.
At Harvard too, a football-type game was being played on the first Monday of the school year. This game was so much physical that the day it was played was often mentioned as “Bloody Monday”. The year 1865 was very important for American Football. The Civil War had ended and football started gaining popularity in the colleges. It was in this year that some basic rules for the game were established and the game got its patent for the first time. Thus on 6th November, 1869 the first inter-collegiate football was played between Rutgers and Princeton where Rutgers won by a score of six goals to four.
In 1873, the Intercollegiate Football Association was formed by the representatives of Columbia, Rutgers, Princeton, and Yale. Till then, the increasingly popular game was being played with many different rules. The association brought into effect the first set of rules of intercollegiate football which allowed fifteen players in each team. However, it was Walter Camp, a coach at Yale, who began the final process of evolution from rugby like game to what we know today as the American Football. The number of players was reduced to eleven and the standard size of the field was set to hundred and ten yards. A little later downs were introduced and tackling below the belt was legalized.
However, the violent physical challenge that the game demanded, caused many serious injuries and deaths in the next few years. As a result, though still gaining popularity, football was banned in many colleges. In 1905, under a directive from President Theodore Roosevelt, Yale, Harvard and Princeton setup a couple of meetings between schools and formed a seven member Rules Committee which was later came to be known as National Collegiate Athletic Association, or the NCAA.
American Football has now become a multi-billion dollar industry. With the advent of cable television, the game have crossed the boundaries of America and spread its wings all over the world. Dozens of games both collegiate ad professional are aired almost every Friday and Saturday afternoons and Sunday and Monday nights during the football season. The super Bowl, that decides the national champion, has become the most watched sporting event of all times. Plenty of merchandise and football products have taken the markets by storm. Quite a number of innovative products are often offered as token gifts and memorabilia. Even free American Football ecards can be found over the net . Some like 123greetings has an entire category dedicated to the game .
Thus from the humble past where football only meant throwing or kicking a ball past the opponents, American Football has emerged as a game which has influenced the culture and economy of the United States of America.
Surviving the National Lottery: Football Pools Strike Back
The concept of the football pools dates back to Liverpool, 1923 when the late Sir John Moores printed off and distributed football coupons by hand after football matches. Fixed-odds betting on football matches had actually been in existence since the 1880s when newspapers in England began to present fixed prices on football matches. However, the concept of a football pool was radically different to that presented by the newspaper and has stayed relatively unchanged since.
Essentially, whereas the newspaper carried odds on teams to win or a match to end in a draw, the football pools allowed players to predict the results of multiple matches, with their entry ’stake’ being pooled together. Winners would then be given a share of the ‘pool’ depending on the amount of money in the pool and the number of winners.
The basic premise of the coupon was to amass 24 points from the list of games played on a Saturday. In order to do this, players selected matches that they thought would end in a ‘draw’ and mark their coupon with an ‘X’. The number of selections a player could make depended on the ‘perm’ (permutation) they wanted to play, as well as the cost of the bet. For example, an 8-from-10 perm allowed players to select 10 matches in the hope 8 of them would result in a draw. Players would hand their completed coupons and stakes to a collector or agent, who would send them on to the operator’s office for checking.
Once all the matches had been played, the pools operator would check each coupon and allocate a score to each selection, depending on result of the match. Commonly, draws were awarded 3 points, with away-team wins being awarded a point-and-a-half and home-team wins being awarded 1 point. Coupon scores would be calculated on the highest scoring combination, depending on the perm played and a dividend announced based on the total amount of the pool and the number of winning players – the more players who scored 24 points, the lower the winning payout was likely to be. Meanwhile, pools players would huddle around the TV or radio – coupon in hand – and await the football results being announced.
Football pools co-existed with high-street bookmakers, who provided much more specific betting opportunities on football matches and horse-racing. While the growth of the football pools had no adverse effect on bookmaker turnover, the easier access to gambling provided by bookmakers did not affect the football pools business either. In fact, many gamblers combined the two elements, contributing to the success and growth of both industries.
However, with the introduction of the National Lottery in 1994, the numbers of people who played football pools began to decline and threatened the pools operators’ long-term future. In fact, immediately prior to the launch of the National Lottery, there was an estimated 10 million football pools players but the introduction of the National Lottery has seen the loss of around 90 percent of football pools customers – lured away by the potential huge lottery jackpot. This is despite football pools still holding a potential payout in excess of £1 million!
In order to survive, football pools operators were forced to consolidate and regroup, which saw some of the major operators amalgamate into a single, larger entity. Furthermore, with the introduction of the internet and online gambling, football pools operators also cast their nets wider in an attempt to entice a greater range of customer.
Nowadays, the websites of football pools operators are about more than predicting the results of football matches. These sites now offer players the chance to play a range of worldwide lotteries as well the opportunity to play online bingo with other players around the country, or even test their knowledge across a range of quizzes as well as the possibility of an instant win ’scratchcard’. This is all in addition to the game that made the football pools operators a household name to begin with, and was the source of much excitement on Saturday afternoons gone by!
Manchester United Ready for Champions League Semifinals
Manchester United Captain Gary Neville believes the team is well prepared to win this season Champions League due to the ability and the preparation the team possesses.
Last year the Manchester United was defeated by the AC Milan, but the team players think they can overcome Barcelona and prove they are better suited this new season.
Manchester Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has invested a lot of money in new players after making an exhaustive research he decided to bring Carlos Tevez, Owen Hargreaves as well as the promising couple of Anderson and Nani to the squad.
Actually it was Tevez who scored the goal that marked the victory of Manchester over Roma and sealed the ticket to the semifinals 3-0.
Neville said “We have a great chance this season. Once you get to a semi-final anything can happen. We are playing well at the moment and winning games regularly. Last year we were maybe not quite ready. This year we have the players to go all the way. The games and the atmosphere against Barcelona will be brilliant. There will be some great players on show. Both teams like attack. I do not think defense is the priority.”
Ferguson could even afford to leave 37-goal Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes on the bench with a crucial Barclays Premier League match against Arsenal to come on Sunday.
Also; Neville’s words echoed into another experienced campaigner Ryan Giggs who was a Neville’s team mate nine years ago when both of them used to play with the Bayern Munich. He agreed with what Neville had to say and also is expecting a great English final in Moscow; since the other two teams involved in the semifinals are the Chelsea who must face Liverpool in the next few weeks.
Giggs also thinks that Manchester has a lot of possibilities of winning over the Barcelona team since this season is not the best for the Spaniard team. He thinks the one who wins is the one who is going to perform better in two legs.
He also thinks that all of the 4 teams that are right now in the semifinals are capable of winning the Champions League this season.
“If you are not up for that game you never will be. Both are very good teams. It is whoever performs best over the two legs mentioned Giggs. The four teams left are all capable of winning the Champions League. It is all about what happens on the day. Games against Barcelona are what you want, playing against great teams”.
Manchester United set a new record by having 11 straight home victories by defeating Roma last Wednesday.
Baseball Vs. Football-which is America’s #1 Sport?
In the United States, both baseball and football have passionate fans who claim that they follow the true number one sport in America. But, how does one determine what is the actual “number one American sport”?
There are several categories that can be considered when determining America’s number one pastime. Analyzing attendance, ticket costs, revenue from television, salaries, venues, will help to present a case for which sport is number one in the United States. These six factors will help determine which sport is more beloved by Americans. Attendance
One way to determine whether baseball or football is more popular in America is by looking at how many people go to the games. During the year 2000, the average crowd at a baseball game was 30,125, while the average crowd at a football game was 66,077. This figure is based on a total yearly attendance, divided by the total number of games that were played in the sport. Simply based upon this one factor, it would appear that twice as many people went to football games than to baseball games in that particular year.Ticket Costs
An aspect which can contribute to the popularity of a sport is ticket cost. An important question is: how affordable is it for the average family in America to go to a live sporting event? Pertaining to this factor, baseball is more accessible and potentially more popular overall with average, to below-average income earning American families. Baseball games, in the year 2000, cost $20.02, while football games cost an average of $54.14. Clearly, live baseball is easier to afford than live football, and watching games live is an experience that can create a lot of fans and generate plenty of excitement for a particular sport.Television Revenue
Another important factor to consider when analyzing the popularity of a given sport is how much money that sport accumulates from television revenues. In this case, football is the clear winner. The NFL brings in about 2.2 billion dollars a year in revenues from television. The MLB earns about 340 million. The significant difference pertaining to TV revenue is that football is on a few days per week, and baseball is on nearly every night. However, football still brings in much more money from ad revenues on television, which means that there are more people watching the football games than are watching the baseball games. When it comes to television revenue, football is the number one sport.
However, this does not settle the argument. The baseball season and the football season are opposites in many ways. Baseball season is long and drawn out, with a team playing almost every night. Football games are essentially once a week, even though the league and the networks have added Saturday and Thursday games to the already successful “Monday Night Football”. This creates more of a buzz for a football game, and the TV numbers and the revenue generation is a product of that buzz.Salaries
Another measure of how popular a sport is would be how much its players are paid. In the Major League Baseball, the average salary is a little over 2 million dollars a year; while the average salary in the NFL is right around 1.18 million dollars a year. Therefore, baseball pays its players more money, but it is essentially unclear what effect this aspect has on the fans preference between the two sports. Venues
The different venues in which the two sports are played is another aspect to take into consideration. When attempting to determine which sport is number one sport in America, this can be a factor. The number of seats in stadiums is important because it shows the number of fans that can be expected per game. The average baseball stadium holds 47,000 people. The average football stadium holds 70,000 people. Therefore, there are more seats to watch football games, meaning that more people typically go to football games. Again, this may be skewed due to the frequency of games played in both football and baseball. However, a regular season football game is more of a major event on a consistent basis than a regular baseball game. The Role of a Sport’s Athletes
Another factor to consider when discussing what America’s favorite pastime may be is the impact the games players have on society, both positive and negative. For instance, if an Arena football player or an A-class baseball player gets in trouble, or does something very generous, it is not big news. If a NFL or MLB player does one of those things, it usually gets plenty of coverage. This may be a draw, mostly because both MLB and NFL players are consistently in the news for various run-in’s with the law or charitable actions.
Looking at these factors together, one realizes that football and baseball are both extremely popular and also very different. Due to this dynamic, it becomes difficult to compare the two fairly. Both sports have been around for many years, and both of them will continue to be popular for many years. Which one, however, is the more popular, is still undecided.

Good Choice of Football Kits
Football is undeniably a growing sport worldwide. Thus, there are many shops offering football kits for both football players and football aficionados. As a matter of fact, those shops offer kits from the simple socks to excellent, well-designed jerseys. Indeed, football fans can really show their love and support to their favorite players and teams through purchasing and using football gears. Sometimes, those gears really add spice to the excitement of the games. However, there are factors to consider in buying some kits.
Comfort should be considered in purchasing any kits associated with football. The size of the football shirts and jerseys are important because no one wants to feel uncomfortable with skin tight or very loose ones. Appropriate size will just make anyone so cool.
Choosing the right kit is a must in purchasing football gears. It is not that hard because of the many football shops that are available today. These shops provide a wide range of stuffs to choose from. Thus, everyone has so many options in choosing the best if not, the appropriate kit for them.
Budget should also be considered in purchasing football gears. It is unquestionable that some of the items associated with football are somehow expensive. But there are still some which are very affordable. So, just stick to what a certain budget can afford. After all, acquiring football gears are not the basic and necessary needs in life. Anyone can still breathe even without those gears.
It is undeniable that any football kit like a jersey can be personalized. Anyone can put his or her name on the football shirt. So, before purchasing, one should be decided already if what name to put on the kit. After selecting the preferred name, design and color, it would be much better to double check the selected item. Another thing to bear in mind is whether to have a long or short sleeve for the jerseys. Indeed, anyone can decide if what could be the design of his or her football kit.
And lastly, always put in mind that a purchased football kit should reflect the personality of the owner. Acquiring kits is a good way to express oneself. Thus, anyone can express their love and support to their favorite teams as well as football stars. After all, that is one of the very cores of football gears and equipment. One good tip in using the purchased kit is to use it with head up high. Always be proud of what kit you are wearing or using. There is no reason to be shy while wearing a kit associated with the most popular sport in the whole world. In fact, being a fan of football is already one thing anyone should be proud of.
Therefore, considerations must be taken wisely in purchasing excellent and high-quality football kits. It is because buying certain kits should not be done abruptly in order to acquire the best if not a well fabricated and designed kit. After all, there is no such thing as an easily purchased kit without thinking intelligently.
Arsenal 0-0 Sunderland – Premier League Match On 21 Feb
In the premier League match on 21st February, Arsenal had registered their third successive goalless draw this weekend and this score would prove as bonus for coming matches. This match remained draw with 0-0 scores as both teams tried their best to get lead of goal but failed. Whereas, Arsenal coach knew that winning of their team against Sunderland would bring them closer to the qualification of championship. However, the match worked in the favor only if Arsenal won it. But despite of bright performance in the first half, done by Andrew Arshavin, the players of Arsenal could not be able to break the stubborn defense of Sunderland. In the early stages, Robin Van Persie clipped a wide hot and Kolo Toure had cleared off header line in the injury time during first half. But eye catching player, Arshavin faded, that gave Arsenal a quite good chance to get a lead over their opponents. After this match, Arsenal remained unbeaten of 13 games but draw football results for further games can drop their ranking position. In the last matches, Arsenal got no victory over Tottenham in their last league match as the match drew with 0-0 score that made a run of 11 games without any loss. In last 11 matches, Arsenal got victory in 5 matches and 6 matches have got tie results which make them to earn 21 points out of 33. This excellent performance put the team in 4th position on the league table. While on other side, opponent team Sunderland beat Stoke City with good lead of 2-0 in the last match which makes them able to win consecutive three matches without any loss. Sunderland won two matches; two drawn and one lost that make them to earn 8 points out of fifteen. Last time Arsenal defeat Sunderland with 3-2 lead last year but this season when they faced each other, situation remains tie with 1-1 at both sides.Arsenal needs just four points to get 4th position in league table against Chelsea. Therefore, they tried their best to win this match as it would increase their ranking position and also brought a moment of excitement in form of live football scores. Arsenal missed the participation of Tomas Rosicky (hamstring), Emmanuel Adebayor (hamstring), and Cesc Fabregas (knee) whose absence proved not so good for the best performance of the team. It was sad to note that Sunderland fast pace and fluid approach of playing was not matched to its past performance in this match, Andy Reid crying over passes and Whitehead denied several times by Almunia. While Arsenal seemed fair not good in front of goal as they were unable to score even one goal. Anyhow, it was a great match as it would not bring any disappointment for the fans of both teams.Do not miss the reviews of this great match, just log on to ScoresPro.com to review live football action of your heroes.
